Beyoğlu, ve omurgası İstiklal Caddesi bir süredir kan kaybediyor. Caddenin ve ona açılan arka sokakların kültür sanat damarını besleyen kurumlar, kitabevleri, sinemalar farklı sebeplerle taşınıyor, kapanıyor. İstiklal Caddesi neredeyse tek tip bir kurumsal ticari faaliyetin arenası haline gelmiş durumda. Öte yandan, 20.yüzyıl başından günümüze direnerek kalabilmiş bu bölge, “kent parçası” diyebileceğimiz büyüklükte kozmopolit bir doku olarak Türkiye’de tek.
